The greatest obstacle to this future is that your rulers have chosen to deny you liberty and to use your nation's resources to fund terrorism, and fuel extremism, and pursue nuclear weapons. The United Nations has passed a clear resolution requiring that the regime in Tehran meet its international obligations. Iran must abandon its nuclear weapons ambitions. Despite what the regime tells you, we have no objection to Iran's pursuit of a truly peaceful nuclear power program. We're working toward a diplomatic solution to this crisis. And as we do, we look to the day when you can live in freedom -- and America and Iran can be good friends and close partners in the cause of peace.

by the way, are you going to write at all about how much the Bush Admin loves ahmadinejad and chavez spouting their distinct brand of crazy in new york? i swear, next thing you know mel gibson will be out calling bush the devil. criticism from the crazies is one of the best endorsements they've gotten in a while.
nihal: I may write something about the Chavez speech this weekend. I found the whole episode (speech, references to sulfur, media reaction, WH reaction, Big Dog reaction, Pelosi and Rangel reactions, etc.) pretty interesting. What I haven't yet seen is how this was covered in the foreign (UK, Canadian, French)press. I'm curious about how the rest of the world saw it vs. how it played here.
That said, the main thing I want to work through this weekend is the Maher Arar report by the Canadian commission of inquiry...
